Magicsheets — the condensed attack outlines for bar prep

Rules and issues to know in just a few pages so you can grab points on the MBE and essays without wasting time, panicking, or getting overwhelmed

What other bar takers (and passers) say about Magicsheets...

“For the first time in a while, I felt good. . . . I found your sheets very schematic, compact, and at the same time detailed (like the idea of a one-pager resume).”

“They’re insanely good. . . . Good alternative to the more commercial outlines that cost an arm and a leg for no reason. His are just better.

“I found the Magicsheets and Approsheets to be superior in their organization and condensation of the key issues and rule statements.”

Magicsheets helped them pass the bar exam and move on with their lives (CA, UBE, elsewhere):

Magicsheets are organized to help memorize and remember issues and rules on the bar exam:

Magicsheets help bar takers get EXCITED and OPTIMISTIC to study (enjoying the process is key!)

Tell me if any of this sounds familiar...

  • Barbri outlines are stressing you out... You get tired just looking at them 😩
  • The amount of material you need to know feels utterly barbaric, and your bar review course only leaves you exhausted and braindead.
  • You took so many notes but remembered nothing by the end of it… You do one subject and move to the next, only to come back to it and… crickets.
  • You’re flipping through never-ending books and files collecting digital dust to hopefully retain enough buzzwords (to use on practice questions that you’ll do... eventually).
  • Your friends won’t stop posting their happy-go-lucky life updates (“Look at this! We have a house and a baby!”) and Bora Bora vacation photos on social media while you’re trapped in an uncertain cycle of hope and despair about your future career as an attorney.
  • You really, really, REALLY want to pass the bar exam and MOVE ON with your life, but this final hurdle is making you question your sanity…

If this is you, you’re NOT alone. And there is a way out of the cycle.

If you want out, you can’t afford to fall into the same mistakes I did on my first attempt.

Here’s the reality about bar prep...

Reality #1: You will forget 99% of what you “studied”… unless you DO something with it.

Reality #2: Knowing the law isn’t enough. You also need to know how to use it. “Knowing” the law conceptually is very different from knowing how to apply it.

Reality #3: Big box outlines are a good reference (like Wikipedia is) but WAY TOO LONG AND WORDY for you to efficiently memorize or practice with.

When you go to a Wikipedia page, you don't read all of it, right? Just the parts that are relevant to you.

A box of thick books can trick you into thinking you have to know all of it. You could instead be gaining a practical intuition about which topics are tested by actually trying to solve past exam questions.

Flipping through pages and getting carpal tunnel trying to find that one rule for the practice question you're doing isn't a good use of your time either.

Your time is worth more than that (and will be even more after you pass the bar exam).

One of the mistakes I made throughout law school and my first attempt at the bar exam was to reinvent the wheel myself... A beginner’s ego trying to do it all, and in the end not even having the time to use my creation.

Look at what I wrote to myself on July 22, 2013 as part of an online course I bought and went through (yes, I practice what I preach and invest in myself too):

“My biggest worry at this point is the upcoming bar exam. I will never feel optimized, but I can focus on practice now that I’ve built foundation of theoretical knowledge the past 2 months.”

...What the hell were you THINKING, Past Brian?

Reviewing “theoretical knowledge” for 2 months and NOW you’re going to practice, a week from the exam?

You’re not doing bar prep just to transcribe expensive lectures, or be a tool collector putting together the information yourself. Your ONE job is to LEARN so that you can pass the bar, not feel drained from “studying” passively.

Stop “studying” and start learning. Busy work is easy work. Passive learning is an alluring trap that steers you away from what actually helps you learn, retain, and do well on the exam.

You just need a few source materials that have done the work for you already so that you can focus on the things that move the needle.

That’s why these “magical” condensed outlines will SIMPLIFY your life and make bar prep EXCITING. Oh, and btw, literal tons of bar takers have passed using Magicsheets, too. (Most bar takers just want to celebrate and move on with their lives, like the stories I shared above, a tiny fraction of what I get in my inbox.)

If it sounds like YOUR turn to ditch the frustration, anxiety, and overwhelm...

Breathe a sigh of relief.

And discover a way to learn the rules (and issues) to know for the bar exam, without getting overwhelmed, panicking, or losing your sanity and dignity.

Brian Hahn of Make This Your Last Time presents:

Magicsheets

Magicsheets are condensed attack outlines summarizing the issues and rules tested on the California Bar Exam (under 60 pages) or the Uniform Bar Exam (under 70 pages).

They’re simple, easy-to-follow sheets that help you learn more in less time so your mind can focus on what really matters — passing the bar.

Why use Magicsheets?

Save precious time and energy by having short and concise (yet comprehensive) attack outlines ready for use right out of the box

Grasp the tested issues and rules in just a few pages per subject (95% of what’s testable in 5% of the length of a Barbri outline)

See the big picture and hone in on smaller details with rules and issues organized in indented outline form

Become ready to answer MBE questions on the actual exam (don’t plateau on a 50% score)

Remember the issues and sub-issues to boost your essay score (no issues = no IRAC = no points)

Bold, italicized, underlined key points for a quick, easy refresher

Quickly identify important legal distinctions (common law vs. statutory law, competing theories, federal vs. state)

Stay up to date on recent changes in the law with constant tweaks and updates

Lightweight enough to do last-minute review right before your exam (without getting overwhelmed with bloated big-box outlines)

How are Magicsheets different from other “one sheets” and attack outlines?

Written to help you answer questions you’ll see on the bar exam (not just “definitions” with no other context)

Quick tips and examples to help you understand (and memorize easier) the law and the approach

Short yet comprehensive with details, nuances, and exceptions (not too long, not too lean)

Nested format that organizes concepts logically (not just a linear list or a poster board)

Focus not just on rules but also issues (issues are king!)

Welcome guide and bonuses to help you win the game of bar prep

Beta tested prior to release, tested in the field, and constantly improving and updated based on interactions with bar takers (like all my products)

You don’t even have to be sure if you want them right now:

Backed by a 30-day satisfaction policy

If you don’t find Magicsheets helpful, just email me back within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. I’ll even eat the processing fees.

You don’t have to take my word for it either. Hear directly from people who used Magicsheets for their bar prep — and crushed it.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

* What are Approsheets?

Not sure how to write, organize, or even start your essay? Blank page staring back at you?

Go from blank page to complete essay with Approsheets issue checklists and flowcharts. Use Approsheets to systematically check for relevant issues and sub-issues (and not randomly "issue spot") to rack up the points on your essays, even if you have no idea where to start writing.

See full samples here or learn more about Approsheets here. CA and UBE versions available.

What’s included with my purchase?

Scroll here to see the subjects included in each package, along with bonuses that apply to the package you select.

What can I expect after purchase?

You'll get two emails:

  1. A receipt with an access link you can use to immediately start using the material
  2. A welcome email introducing your new resource, helpful links, and coupon codes for other supplements

If you aren't subscribed to my weekly newsletters already, including Strategy Saturday, MBE Q&A Wednesday, and Fire-up Friday, you'll be automatically added and get another welcome email. So you'll be getting study strategies, exercises, motivation, and inspiration every week! I want you to get the most value from your investment. (No worries, you can unsubscribe anytime.)

What’s the best way to use Magicsheets?

Use Magicsheets to memorize and practice past exam questions (MBE questions or essay questions). I recommend downloading the files to your computer. You can also print them out and highlight, annotate in the margins, etc.

As you get closer to the exam, the short format of Magicsheets can be a great final review.

See the Welcome guide for some more ideas! You can see the Welcome guide in the samples here.

When’s the best time to get Magicsheets?

There are two main types of bar takers who have used Magicsheets to study for the exam (and passed):

  1. Using Magicsheets 2-4 weeks before their exam as final review to consolidate what they know and focus on memorization and practice. The most ideal use case is streamlining tested subject matter from a big bar review course. That said, you can always use Magicsheets to get a handle on the tested matter, as others have done.
  2. Using Magicsheets early on or mid-prep because they wanted a slimmed-down reference.

Just don't be the person who said they wish they found me or used Magicsheets sooner! There's always that person every exam :)

Are Magicsheets enough on their own to pass the bar?

Bar takers have passed solely using Magicsheets, but that’s no guarantee that they will be enough for your needs.

Ideally, I’d recommend having one other outline that is longer (such as Barbri’s Conviser Mini Review (CMR)), so that you can reference it if you want to go deeper on a concept.

Are Magicsheets updated?

Yep, they're ready to use! Con Law includes the 2022 updates to Kennedy/Lemon and Dobbs. CA Professional Responsibility has updates from 2018, 2020, 2023.

I tweak and improve them throughout the year and send out updates a few times a year. Whenever there's a major update to the covered subject matter, I send an update.

They seem a little hard to read... Could I get a version in bigger font?

While you can magnify the text while reading the Magicsheets on your computer, the text is in 10pt Times New Roman and will come out that way from your printer.

Please make sure you're OK with this before purchasing. The files are in PDF format only, so they aren't editable. What you see in the samples is what you'll get.

The idea was to condense the information and also give a bird's eye structure of the material. That said, a version with a more relaxed view (and other things) is in the pipeline!

What’s the difference between the California and UBE versions?

Besides the subjects included, you’ll notice that the California version includes distinctions and terminology used in California, while the UBE version doesn’t include any reference to California-specific law.

CAThe California version (but not the UBE version) includes CA Community Property and various distinctions between general law and CA law, including in the MBE subjects. The CA version does not include the below subjects tested on the UBE, so it does not include all the materials needed for the UBE.

UBE: Secured Transactions, Conflict of Laws, Family Law, and Trusts & Estates (which includes future interests topics and overlaps with Wills & Trusts tested in CA) are subjects included in the UBE version but not the CA version. Only general “bar law” is included.

Bar takers looking for study materials for bar exams that test neither CA nor UBE subject matter often choose the UBE version because it’s the closest to their state. For this reason, the UBE version comes with extra subjects that are not on the UBE, such as Professional Responsibility (ABA model rules only). If you’re taking the UBE, no need for alarm thinking ethics are tested on the bar exam, though you will on the MPRE.
